Ijam “50 Caliber” Asri is a professional boxer from Malaysia, a dedicated father and a fighter who has built his career through perseverance, discipline, and an unwavering belief in himself. From humble beginnings and overcoming limited opportunities to competing at the highest levels of the sport, Ijam’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination.
Driven by a passion for competition and inspired by boxing legends such as Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, he continues to pursue his ultimate goal of becoming the WBC Asia Heavyweight Champion before retirement while inspiring others through his relentless fighting spirit.

BACKGROUND
Tell us about yourself and how you got started in martial arts.
My name is Ijam Asri. I’m a professional Boxer from Malaysia and a father. I got into martial arts because I was always drawn to competition and challenging myself. What started as a way to stay active quickly became a passion and eventually a career.
What attracted you to your chosen combat sport?
I love the honesty of combat sports. There’s nowhere to hide when you’re in the ring or cage. Your preparation, discipline, and heart are all tested, and that’s what attracted me from the beginning.
Who were your biggest influences growing up?
My biggest influences were fighters who showed resilience and discipline like Mike tyson and Muhammad Ali . But beyond sports, my family played a huge role in shaping my mindset and work ethic.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
What was the biggest challenge you faced early in your career?
Lack of resources and opportunities. Like many fighters, I had to balance training, work, and everyday responsibilities while trying to improve and compete.
Was there a moment when you knew fighting could become more than just a hobby?
Yes. Once I started competing regularly and seeing the impact the sport had on my life, I realized this was something I wanted to pursue seriously.
What sacrifices have you made to pursue this path?
Time with family, social events, comfort, and financial stability at times. Fighting requires a lot of sacrifice, but I believe the journey is worth it.
What achievement are you most proud of?
Honestly, I’m most proud of staying in the fight game despite injuries, setbacks, and challenges. Every time I step into the ring, it’s proof that I didn’t quit.
Which fight has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
My fight when I lost at MIMMA season 2 finals, the fights where I had the biggest impact. Those experiences taught me more about myself than any easy victory ever could.
What lessons have you learned from both victories and defeats?
Victories build confidence, but defeats build character. Winning feels great, but losing teaches you lessons that can make you a better fighter and a better person.
TRAINING & MINDSET
What does a typical training week look like?
A typical week includes boxing sessions, strength and conditioning, technical work, pad sessions, recovery work, and studying opponents. Everything is structured around improving performance and staying healthy.
How do you prepare mentally for competition?
I focus on preparation. Confidence comes from knowing I’ve done the work. I visualize success, trust my training, and remind myself why I started.
What keeps you motivated during difficult times?
My daughter. She gives me a reason to keep pushing forward. I also want to prove to myself that I can overcome obstacles and continue growing as an athlete.
FUTURE AND LEGACY
What goals are you currently pursuing?
Right now, I’m focused on establishing myself as a professional boxer and continuing to compete at a high level while improving with every fight but the Main goals is to be WBC Asia Heavyweight Champion before I retired
What legacy would you like to leave in the sport?
I want to be remembered as someone who never backed down from a challenge, stayed true to himself, and inspired others to keep going regardless of their circumstances.
What advice would you give aspiring fighters?
Be patient. Fall in love with the process, not just the results. There will be setbacks, losses, injuries, and doubts, but consistency and discipline will take you further than talent alone
